Welcome to this week's tanda!

Carlos Di Sarli is definitely not the most know for valses, but these three are absolute fire. Recorded between 1940 and 1942 these songs hit an interesting phase in Argentine tango, where uptempo tangos were at their peak in popularity and when the tempo finally started slowing down.

The short selection of Di Sarli valses recorded between 1940-1942 mostly held their tempo up to Rosas de otoño (recorded in September 9th of 1942), but already Alzame en tus brazos from April and Estampa federal from December 1942 (and everything recorded since) have the hand breaks on and are almost too slow for dancing.

Rosas de otoño with singer Alberto Podestá is also a vals you don't hear that often for at least because none of Di Sarli/Podestá's repertoire match the style or tempo of the uptempo Rosas de otoño. So I'll look for songs recorded with Rufino, but two songs of Rufino and one of Podestá wouldn't make a balanced tanda. So let's throw in a third singer, Agustin Volpe, who had only one recording with Di Sarli and luckily it's a vals. So we are on our way of creating a vals tanda with three amazing singers and two valses rarely heard in milongas.

I'd say that especially the uptempo the valses also bring out a different side of Di Sarli's piano playing, but analyzing it further is above my pay-grade.
