39/2024 - Uptempo instrumental tango classics from modern orchestras

This is a tanda I made recently for my 5 hour DJ gig at the Tampere Tango Festival in Finland. It features a mix of four modern orchestras going after some of the biggest uptempo instrumental tango classics and golden age arrangements like Anibal Troilo's 'Cachirulo'.

Argentine tango orchestra
Orquesta Típica Pichuco

Orquesta Típica Pichuco starts the tanda with a great and lively version of the above mentioned Cachirulo. As the name implies they have specialized in the Troilo discography and I highly recommend listening to their two albums available on Spotify.

Next is the return of Sexteto Cristal to the blog, this time with Carlos Di Sarli's 'Shusheta', followed by the Orquesta Típica Tanturi with Ricardo Tanturi's 'Comparsa Criolla'.

I originally wanted to finish the tanda with Orquesta Esquina Sur's recording of Osvaldo Fresedo's 'Tigre Viejo' but wasn't able to purchase the recording. So I decided to go with Orquesta Social Tango and their version of and Juan D'Arienzo's 'Maipo'.

This is a very uptempo and energetic tanda that pays homage in outstanding quality of musicianship to the original recordings and arrangements.

Enjoy!

Thanks! Interesting indeed. Though, I'm not sure jet what to think of the speed, it is maybe too different between the songs. BTW: The Song of Orquesta Esquina Sur - 'Tigre Viejo' is available on Bandcamp: https://orquestaesquinasur.bandcamp.com/album/busc-ndote

Thanks for the comment! Yes you are right, Shusheta is quite a bit slower than the others. I may have used the opportunities given to me by the Traktor Pro software and played it at a slighty higher tempo. But maybe Tigre Viejo could replace Susheta. Thank for the tip about where to find it!
