35/2024 - The melodic uptempo instrumental tangos of Osvaldo Fresedo
Many of Fresedo's recordings feature beautifully smooth melodies and orchestration, yet maintain an unexpectedly brisk tempo. This tanda offers dancers a wide range of options for exploring different dynamics on the floor.

For comparison Carlos Di Sarli's Bahia Blanca is at 119 bpm while Juan D'Arienzo's El Puntazo and Yapeyu are at 134 bpm. If you'd want to push this tanda in the more uptempo and rhythmical direction, Fresedo's Derecho Viejo at 135 bpm would be a sure choice.

This tanda also takes you on a journey through time, with recordings spanning from 1934 to 1945. Despite La Mariposa’s grand arrangement (a 1921 composition where the orchestra pulls out all the stops), the overall style of the songs remains remarkably consistent. I'm always surprised at both the arrangement and the recording quality of the 1934 Tigre Viejo.
I did try to find a replacement for La Mariposa but for example Fresedo's instrumental recording of Griseta (1944) (another beautiful melodic composition) is considerably slower in tempo.

Hi, I sometimes play a combination of Arrabalero (1939) - Poliya (1939) - Mariposita (1941) - Divagando (1939). They are more of the same period and more alike. I use this tanda early in the milonga to get people dancing with easy nice uptempo music. It's nice to have these recordings now in good quality bt TTT!
