46/2025 Alberto Podestá 1950s vals tanda with three orchestras
I had never heard of one these orchestras!
Welcome to this week's tanda!
Going through my vals collection I came across the Miguel Caló vals with Alberto Podestá called "Sueña" recorded in 1954. It's a beautiful vals and a song on the downtempo side that is played sometimes in milongas. Podestá recorded only three valses with Caló so if you want to play the song in a strictly Caló/Podestá tanda, you'll have a huge time gap in "Bajo un cielo de estrellas" from 1941 and "Pedacito de cielo" from 1942 going into "Sueña" from 1954. Just the recording quality is massively different and it doesn't feel very consistent, but for a special occasion it could work.
Mixing singers and orchestras
The song is most often played in a mixed tanda of some sort. Probably with three songs from different orchestras and singers. Sort of like the following Guest DJ tanda from El Puntanzo TangoDJ with Roberto Caló, Francisco Rotundo and Francisco Canaro built around the Canaro vals "Bailando me diste un beso" from 1952.

If you have a suggestion for such mixed tanda built around "Sueña" send us a comment!
