43/2026 Ricardo Tanturi & Enrique Campos vals tanda

Which song will you leave out?

Do you ever find the Tanturi rhythm difficult to dance to?

I had to think about this again when putting together this vals tanda from the short selection of Ricardo Tanturi valses with singer Enrique Campos. At a first listen Tanturi's tangos and valses might seem fairly simple. but there's a certain level of depth to them that I have trouble explaining. Many orchestras with a stronger compas will play very precisely and staccato, but Tanturi plays softer and it's like the orchestra had more natural fluidity around a rather clear beat. It's something that seems effortless and laid back. I wouldn't say it's very challenging but it will make me think more carefully about which songs to choose for a varied dance crowd.

On a side note... have you heard Tanturi with Juan Carlos Godoy?

Just last week I shared this beautiful tango tanda of singer Juan Carlos Godoy with the orchestra of Alfredo de Angelis.

Godoy recorded some tangos with Tanturi as well, but the highlight of his recordings for me is this vals below with Elsa Rivas and Horacio Rova.

If you have suggestions for a mixed 1950s vals tanda featuring this song (sort of like this), I am all ears and will gladly share it on the blog!

The Tanturi & Campos vals discography

Moving on... So there are only four valses recorded by Ricardo Tanturi with singer Enrique Campos. While I like them all, there's one I chose to leave out of the tanda due to the above reasons.

Ricardo Tanturi & Enrique Campos - Al pasar 1943-08-06
Ricardo Tanturi & Enrique Campos - Añoranzas 1944-05-18
Ricardo Tanturi & Enrique Campos - Me besó y se fue 1945-02-19
Ricardo Tanturi & Enrique Campos/Roberto Videla - Tu vieja ventana 1945-10-23

I think I'll leave out Me besó y se fue this time, since it might be the most challenging one. Al pasar might have the clearest and most inviting start of all the songs, Añoranzas is a fine vals, although possibly less heard in milongas, and I don't mind Roberto Videla joining Campos in a duet in Tu vieja venta as the last song. The ending of the song probably fits the ending of the tanda best as well.

So this is my tanda:

  • Ricardo Tanturi & Enrique Campos - Al pasar 1943-08-06
  • Ricardo Tanturi & Enrique Campos - Añoranzas 1944-05-18
  • Ricardo Tanturi & Enrique Campos/Roberto Videla - Tu vieja ventana 1945-10-23
