12/2026 Romántica Milonguero - modern orchestra / traditional tango tanda
"I chose these songs because of the female singer and knowing they were recorded by a certain few orchestras. But I wasn't aware of what I found out as I looked into the songs closer!"
Welcome to this week's tanda!
I've noticed that some DJs play a lot of Francisco Canaro and Orquesta Típica Victor, and when they play modern orchestras the selection is often of songs made famous by Canaro / OTV. I guess I'm very similar in my opposition as I play a lot of Troilo. Pugliese, Tanturi and Demare and will choose songs from their discography when I play modern orchestras.
I don't mean anything by saying this, other than it's an observation I made about myself especially, and it's something I'll get back to in this tanda.
I also play mostly instrumentals from the modern orchestras, unless the singer is named Ariel Ardit. But as one of the things we are missing in tango music is more female singers, I thought it'd be a good chance to have a look at Romántica Milonguero, an orchestra with plenty of recordings and popularity in milongas, and singers include Roberto Minondi, Marisol Martinez, Antonella Alfonso and Marco Bellini.
I actually dedicate this tanda to my lovely wife, for making a request for female singers, and for giving me the pleasure to dance this tanda with her before publishing it. <3
