07/2026 Juan D'Arienzo & Alberto Echagüe - The TangoTunes new 2026 transfers
Welcome to this week's tanda!
There's been a lot of Juan D'Arienzo tandas already on the blog, and for a good reason! But I thought about sharing one more right now due to the recent new releases by TangoTunes.
One morning I found this message in my inbox:
"We [TangoTunes] have re-transferred all 116 D’Arienzo tunes from shellacs — the complete discography from 1935-1939.
You receive this message because you previously purchased a D'Arienzo compilation, and we want to fully credit that expense."
In 2015 the original D’Arienzo release was a game changer for many DJs and a milestone for TangoTunes. "This new edition sets a new one."
I remember when the slowed down pitch-corrected digitalization of "Pensalo bien" was released, it took some time getting used to. All we knew before was the old low quality releases that had the song as a super uptempo version. But that was the version that everybody had danced to since forever. And now listening to both versions I think I love them both. I'll put the uptempo out of pitch version on the tanda playlist. 😄
Todo de Juan D'Arienzo 1935-1939
The compilation of 116 recordings might be too much for many, but fortunately all the songs are available for purchase individually as well.
If you have purchased some of the songs from the earlier D'Arienzo TangoTunes releases, CHECK YOUR INBOX. I got a discount code with the email and I guess I would've been fully credited for getting the songs in AIFF 16bit/48KHz format, but I decided pay some extra and upgrade my collection to FLAC 24bit/96KHz format.
I haven't had the chance to make a lot of comparisons between the 2015 and 2026 releases, so I suggest listening to the audio samples provided on the webstore and making your own comparisons and opinion on the quality. But here's what they shared about the new transfer technology DSD for shellacs:
DSD is a very high-resolution capture method that follows the groove signal with exceptional precision. The process is complex and demanding, but it preserves details and micro-dynamics that normal PCM transfers miss. Even though we deliver the music in PCM, starting from a DSD master gives the final sound noticeably more clarity and depth.
Juan D'Arienzo & Alberto Echagüe Argentine Tango Tanda
So far I've shared the following tandas on Tanda of the Week
- 12/2024 - D'Arienzo Instrumental 1950s Argentine Tango
- 44/2025 - D'Arienzo/Echagüe tango classics
- 17/2025 - Tango Time Travel, D'Arienzo and Juan Carlos Lamas
- 26/2025 - D'Arienzo/Echagüe 1939 vals tanda
- 39/2025 - D'Arienzo with Héctor Mauré tango tanda
- 52/2025 - D'Arienzo with Mario Bustos tango tanda
The 44/2025 tanda with Echagüe includes classics of 1939 like "Mandria" and the 39/2025 tanda with Echagüe has some of the best valses ever recorded. I thought this time I'd highlight the tango classics he recorded in 1938. No real surprises here, but all songs are absolute necessities for every DJs repertoire.
The songs are slightly lower tempo (65-66 ish) than many of the 1939 recordings (66-68 bpm), but all have great drive and heavenly bandoneon solos.
- Juan D'Arienzo & Alberto Echagüe - "Pensalo bien" 1938-06-22
- Juan D'Arienzo & Alberto Echagüe - "Nada mas" 1938-07-28

The YouTube playlist will not match the quality or pitch of the TangoTunes releases.
